This film follows the life of three people in a unique Pacific Island Community as they face the first devastating effects of climate change, including a terrifying flood. Will they decide to stay with their Island home or move to a new and unfamiliar land, leading their culture and language behind forever?

Tolobuwa, the Oluvilei village chief, discusses the meaning of the magic stones and string game with his son Topiki. Such a tale adopts beliefs, poetry and mystery, the film takes place over three days where each villager plays their own part, punctuated by the voice of the island poet John Kasaipwalova, who throws some light on the ancestral poetic language and the use of string games.

This unknown war is being waged in the Southern Ocean, in the fish rich waters around the Antarctic. Its victims are the Patagonia tooth fish highly prized particularity in the USA, Japan, China for its firm, white flesh that has very few bones. This lucrative business has attracted illegal fishermen who abide by no fishing quotas or laws. These pirates and the men behind them become millionaires on the rich pickings. Their unscrupulous fishing methods threaten not only the livelihoods of legal fishermen but the integrity of the entire marine eco-system.

Less famous than its Guyanese counterpart, the New Caledonian penal colony represents another story of the French ultramarine prison. The taking over of this French South Pacific land in 1853 marked the beginning of this colonization through prison. 22,000 ‘transported’ people arrived in successive waves in New Caledonia from 1864. The penal colony closed its doors in 1931. Through the lives of four of these men, this film offers a vision of this period through the historical facts and the ‘stories’ of men who got through it.

In 1987, on the Faaite atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, six people were burnt alive in the name of God. This unprecedented massacre took place on a tiny island with only 350 inhabitants. It left behind deep wounds and brought an unknown part of the history of Polynesia to the forefront, a light and dark side to a reputedly heavenly universe. Still today questions remain unanswered. What really happened in Faaite?

Maeva and Eteroa are 23 and 20 years old. Brother and sister by birth, they were born on the island of Rurutu in Polynesia and were adopted during the first hours of their lives by a French couple. Thus, they grew up a long way from home. Today they wonder about it, wanting to know their origins and culture, to discover the island where they first saw the light of day. They decide to take the first step, to go and discover their native island, for a initiatory trip which will lead them far beyond what they had imagined…
