Father Laval is a historic character now virtually legendary in the collective unconscious of the Managarevan people in the Gambier Islands. Diverse and at times very critical pictures have been outlined of this 19th century missionary priest. Father Auguste Uebe Carlsson, born in the Gambier archipelago, narrates his past and present vision of the work and life of Father Laval. He sets out a sensitive plea to clear the name of Father Laval.
