70 year old Wassapa Kaloïé, born in Bordeaux, raised by her maternal grand-parents, leads an enquiry in her town and in Lifou to find traces of her father, Marius, who died in 1941 and whom she never knew. This Kanak went to France with about one hundred others to participate in the colonial exhibition in 1931. They were exposed like cannibals, first in a Parisian zoo, then in Germany. Marius left the group to remain in France where he worked, married, and died accidentally. 60 years later Wassapa brings her father’s remains back to his homeland, New Caledonia. This film narrates the destinies of Wassapa and Marius, it recalls the interwar period of human exhibitions in France.
