DESCENDRE A KALAUPAPA
Hawaii – 2009 – 52 mn
Réalisateur : Pierre François Didek
Production : Point du Jour
Version française
On the North coast of Molokai, Hawaii, the small peninsula known as Kalaupapa is cut off from the rest of the island by impressive cliffs, some of which are 1000m high. In the 19th century, the Hawaiian authorities created a leprosarium. For more than a century, thousands of ill people were abandoned. They ended up developing a real community there. Each day 73 year old Buzy Sproat takes down by donkey a handful of tourists along the path which snakes along the side of the cliff to discover this ‘tropical Alcatraz.’
